1. Cochrane Health Economics Workshop
Background
This two-day workshop is designed to provide an introduction to health economics.
Target audience:
This is an opportunity for those with an interest in using health economics but with only limited experience to move from the first principles of economic evaluation to practical application of the techniques.
Description:
Day 1
In the morning a brief introduction to health economics will be provided and the main types of economic evaluation used in health care are in the introduction. In the afternoon we go on to consider how the cost components of an economic evaluation can be completed. This will include how the costs can be identified, measured and valued, as well as key things to consider when estimating costs.
Day 2
The morning will be spent considering how the other part of every economic evaluation, benefits, can be identified, measured and valued. In the afternoon we move back to consider when an economic evaluation should be conducted and, in practical terms how an economic evaluation might be performed.

2. Essential Occupational Safety and Health Interventions in Low- and Middle-Income Countries
Background
The Cochrane Occupational Safety and Health Review Group, the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (FIOH), the Indian Association of Occupational Health (IAOH) and the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH) Scientific Committee on Occupational Health and Development (ICOH SCOHDev) have come together to organize this one-day workshop that aims to increase the uptake of evidence-based interventions used in occupational health and safety in low- and middle-income (LMIC) countries..
Target audience
Occupational health physicians, safety officers, managers, and anyone interested in finding, understanding and using reliable evidence for interventions used in promoting occupational health and safety, particularly in LMICs.
Description:
Participants will be introduced to SCOHDev and the research agenda; and to Cochrane Systematic Reviews. This will be followed by presentations and discussions around evidence from Cochrane reviews in the areas of occupational health and safety; injury prevention; promoting respiratory protection; and preventing work-related musculoskeletal problems that will be led by experts from Finland, Malaysia, Thailand and the UK. There will be opportunities for clarifications. Local sharing of experiences, such as of interventions in unorganized sectors; and other intervention studies will enrich the day’s proceedings. Group work will focus on interventions for dust related diseases; interventions in chemical industries; and interventions for injury prevention that will culminate in attempts to formulate new titles for systematic reviews in occupational health and safety relevant for LMICs.
This is a unique opportunity for Occupational Health & Safety (OSH) professionals to know more about how, and where, to find reliable answers to their questions about what interventions work, what interventions do not work, and what interventions in OSH need more evidence.
This workshop will also be an opportunity to be a part of a group that will discuss some sector-specific interventions.
This workshop also offers a platform for people from all over the world interested in OSH to collaborate to find ways of making work-places everywhere less hazardous; and ultimately more fulfilling.
Type of workshop: Information-sharing and discussion workshop.
